The Accuser

I was sitting in the car with my husband on our way from a friend’s house when the Spirit of the Lord visited my mind and brought me this revelation:

The word “accuse” is defined as charging someone with an offense or crime. To accuse is to claim a person did something wrong regardless of whether it’s true or not. This is why in traditional Hebrew text, the term used to describe the principality of evil isn’t “the devil”, but rather, ha-satan, meaning ‘the Accuser’, such as in the Book of Job. The same is also said in the Book of Revelation to describe this principality as “the accuser of the brethren.’ Accusations can be made not only about a person’s actions, but their character as well.

“You’re unlovable”

“You’re a failure”

“You don’t believe God is real”

“You didn’t have a good life because God hates you”

“They’ll never love someone as messed up as you”

“You’re an addict”

“You’re irredeemable”

Unfortunately in the court of our mind, innocent until proven guilty doesn’t suffice. We accept the charges with little to no defense, and receive our punishment of mental torment and spiritual death.

Since the beginning of the time we’ve been both blessed and burdened by Free Will. This has been our conundrum since the dawn of creation as Beings made in the Image of the One Living God: to either A) choose to believe in our divine birthright as creations of God, loved, forgiven, and cared for despite our flaws and imperfections or B) choose to doubt the intention and presence of God and thus fall into the trap of fear, anxiety, and poor decision making.

The Devil is not a single entity with pitchfork and horns that is solely responsible for the evil we experience in the world. Instead, consider this: the Accuser operates as a force, a disembodied spiritual power that exudes its influence on all of our minds to wrestle with the spiritual fortitude within us. The difference between the person who believes the false accusations of the accuser and the person who doesn’t, is the strength within..

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”

It was here in thought that the sacrifice of Christ took on yet another dimension to me that it hadn’t before. Christ was no stranger to accusations. He fasted for 40 days before the Accuser came upon him to torment His mind unto doubt. In every instance, like a sword, he wielded the word of God against every attempt made to silence his belief in being a child of God. Like in any court case, the prosecution stands to make an accusation and prove itself right against you before God. Ha-Satan is that prosecution.

But fortunately for us, we have the ultimate defense team: Christ, and the spirit of God within us. If we CHOOSE to believe the truth, we must defend ourselves with integrity and faith. Take heart, stand in courage, be bold in professing your identity and resist the slander of your character. The court of Heaven is always fair, and we possess more power over our minds and hearts than we realize.
